The picture I
have chosen is the graffiti art piece by one of my favorite artist, Banksy. He
is one of my favorite artists because he doesn’t tag, he actually does street art,
and he shows a mirror up to society’s mistakes. He is a social commentator. The
image I picked is titled "Solders Painting Peace". It shows two soldiers
holding guns painting a red bleeding peace sign. In this picture, some viewer sees
the two soldiers painting over a peace sign. They should closely look at how
the peace sign is painted. Its dripping, its bleeding, its resembling all the
souls of living beings lost in trying to make peace. Another thing that makes this piece standout is
that the peace sign is unfinished, resembling that the world doesn’t have a full amount of
happiness. When viewers see that it’s an unfinished symbol, they think the army
is painting over it. When you look at the paint brush, it’s red like the bloody
piece sign. This image reminds me of his 9/11 tribute since today is 9/11 and
his picture is about war. His tribute is the twin towers with an orange flower
on the right one showing an explosion.
The specific
detail of the peace sign photo is basically the government is having people
kill other people to stop killing thousandths of other people. The peace sign
is unfinished, resembling that the world doesn’t have a full amount of
happiness. We can’t stop killing others for peace. In conclusion, this image is
important because it’s showing the losses of people for saving others.
