Big Deal Paragraph

          The picture I have chosen is the graffiti art piece by one of my favorite artist, Banksy. He is one of my favorite artists because he doesn’t tag, he actually does street art, and he shows a mirror up to society’s mistakes. He is a social commentator. The image I picked is titled "Solders Painting Peace". It shows two soldiers holding guns painting a red bleeding peace sign. In this picture, some viewer sees the two soldiers painting over a peace sign. They should closely look at how the peace sign is painted. Its dripping, its bleeding, its resembling all the souls of living beings lost in trying to make peace. Another thing that makes this piece standout is that the peace sign is unfinished, resembling that the world doesn’t have a full amount of happiness. When viewers see that it’s an unfinished symbol, they think the army is painting over it. When you look at the paint brush, it’s red like the bloody piece sign. This image reminds me of his 9/11 tribute since today is 9/11 and his picture is about war. His tribute is the twin towers with an orange flower on the right one showing an explosion.

          The specific detail of the peace sign photo is basically the government is having people kill other people to stop killing thousandths of other people. The peace sign is unfinished, resembling that the world doesn’t have a full amount of happiness. We can’t stop killing others for peace. In conclusion, this image is important because it’s showing the losses of people for saving others.

Four New Ozone-Killing Gases Detected: Scientists Look for Source

OSLO, Norway — Scientists have detected four new industrial gases that damage Earth's protective ozone layer, despite bans on almost all production of similar gases under a 1987 treaty.

Tiny traces of the gases were found in Greenland ice cores and in air samples from Tasmania, researchers reported Sunday in the journal Nature Geoscience. Experts are working to identify the sources of the chemicals, which may have been used to make pesticides or refrigerants.

The ozone layer shields the planet from damaging ultraviolet rays, which can cause skin cancer and eye cataracts, and has been recovering after a phase-out of damaging chemicals under the United Nations' 1987 Montreal Protocol.

 

 

Three new types of chlorofluorocarbons, or CFCs, were reported, plus one type of hydrochlorofluorocarbon, or HCFC.

 

"The concentrations are not yet a threat to the ozone layer," lead author Johannes Laube of the University of East Anglia in England told Reuters. In total, the scientists estimated more than 74,000 metric tons of the four had been released to the atmosphere. That is only a small fraction of the million metric tons of CFCs produced every year at a 1980s peak, according to the team of scientists in Britain, Germany, Australia, France, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The Greenland ice cores indicate that none of the gases was present before the 1960s.

Laube said it was unknown if the emissions of the new gases were illegal, since the Montreal Protocol has some exemptions. "We hope to tighten the loopholes," he said.

One of the newly discovered CFCs was worrying since concentrations were rising fast, Laube said. The gases were detected earlier in Greenland than Tasmania, indicating they were produced in the northern hemisphere and then blown south. Research planes, taking air samples around the world, may be able to find the sources, Laube said.

NASA's Kepler Mission Announcment

Today I went to a web site called ScienceDaily and found out that NASA's Kepler mission announced the discovery of 715 new planets. These new planets orbit 305 stars, showing multiple planet systems much like our own solar system. Nearly 95 percent of these planets are smaller than Neptune, which is almost 4x the size of Earth. This discovery marks a significant increase in the number of known small-sized planets more akin to Earth than previously identified exoplanets, which are planets outside our solar system.

Black Snake Chemestry

Today I am going to do a chemical reaction called "Black Snake". So what's happening is that the sulfuric acid is removing all the water molecules from sugar since its a carbohydrate. Then your basically dehydrating the sugar which then your left with elemental carbon. Although the sugar is dehydrated, the water isn't lost in the reaction. Some of it stays as a liquid in the acid. Since the reaction is exothermic, much of the water is boiled off as steam.

C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ (sugar) + H₂SO₄ (sulfuric acid) → 12 C (carbon) + 11 H₂O (water) + mixture water and acid

The way I'm going to do is by using drain cleaner (dehydrated sulfuric acid) and 'just adding water' , and of course sugar. It will still be like the above, but not as good as this video below.

Snow Time!

CorridorDigital has a new video, it's basically a snowball fight between two teams from the video game TF2 also known as Team Fortress 2. Well I actually have a favorite part, its when Pyro uses the Super Soaker. It's not full of dust, that's actually all the boiling water atoms freezing in extreme temperatures instantly. So what happens is that since the water is hot, and it's cold outside, it cools down very fast giving off steam.  My other favorite part is at the end when Demoman gets hit by Sniper with a yellow snow ball because he peed on it.

My Instagram

Even though I opened an Intagram account 29 weeks ago I actually started posting yesterday, I wasn't sure what it was. Its my now opinion that Instagram is used to express yourself, how you feel, funny stuff, great scenic views, awesome photoshop, and getting back to your friends. What I mean by getting back to your friends is to see how they are doing. For an example, I didn't know that my friend from elementary had to go to the hospital, until yesterday. We hadn't seen each other since last June now we are following each other. And now I'm following almost all of my friends. So if you don't have an instagram account get one and show how awesome you are! Go on, go.

Hall is a singer and chorographer who has a channel on Youtube. In one video he has a flash mob in Target and in another he sings his order in the drive- thru at McDonalds.
